Journal #5
Tattoos, in my opinion, are a perfect example of everyday writing. In the argument withing this essay, it was being debated whether tattoos would be a good way to mark someone for contracting AIDS/HIV. This could have gone one of two ways in a sense. Based on the persons personal "everyday" they could elect to have the tattoo to have others be well aware of their actions and as a clear warning, or they could elect not to because they feel that such personal information should not be made known to perfect strangers who will do nothing but judge. But how this applies to an everyday type of feel is the actual tattoo itself. Because it, in my opinion, can be used as another basic medium through which one expresses thoughts, or personal sentiment, or just their style choices.
Based on a person's feelings or everyday beliefs, they may find the tattoo to be repulsive. Whats on the tattoo actually may not be an issue, but the actual tattoo itself may be shunned in that person's everyday.
For example, some think getting tattoos is a cool trend and a personal way of expression, while some look down upon people with tattoos and even throw out the excuse of "You can never get a good job with one of those". I know from my own experiences that if i were to ever get a tattoo i would probably have to leave the house. Because my parents can't stand tattoos due to the definition they have assigned to them. Then the AIDS/HIV marking would make the everyday meaning change, and the tattoos may result in people changing their "everyday" due to the connotation brought upon them by the meaning of said mark.
