Journal 5

So far in this course I think the three most important concepts of everyday writing are place and scene, affect and lastly it is something not taught in an institution. Pace and scene are a very important aspect especially when it comes to tattoos. Like Taylor pointed out in her post earlier tattoo placement is important to how people are going to convey you. Tattoos that are placed in a more visible area on your body are going to be notices and addressed more than a tattoo that is placed somewhere that is not always shown. Not only does location on your body is what place and scene are referring too but also what kind of scene a person is physically in and how people react to it is what is meant. This brings us to affect when it comes to tattoos. Tattoos are about to elicit many different types of reaction or affects from people. People can love it or they can hate it but no matter their option on it they are still talking about it. This also brings out people own interpretation of things. Like in the article about graffiti, tattoos can hit a person viewing it before they are able to interpret what it means, and this is affecting a person. Lastly tattoos are definitely not taught in an institution. One could argue that they are institutional because some artists go to art schools, but I believe that everything about tattoos are not way institutional one bit. Most peoples outlooks on tattoos are that they are a type of rebellion and are frown upon in certain settings.

Yes I do believe that tattoos are a form of everyday writing. I believe it is a more informal way for a person to express himself or herself, just like they do in letters or journals. It is just a more permanent approach to everyday writing. I believe that tattoos are a form of this type of writing due to all of the reasons I stated above as well as more. Tattoos are a very unique thing to a person, and they cannot really be completely and 100% recreated. Sure two tattoos could look the same but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it has the same meaning to the two people who have the tattoo. I also believe if one has a tattoo then they are part of a discourse community, some may feel more welcomed then others but I believe they all have something in common.
