Journal #4

Place and scene are a very important part everyday writing. A place and scene helps with understanding writing you see everyday. Like in the reading, “(Meta)Physical Graffiti: ‘Getting Up’ As Affective Writing Model” the campus student group created a wall where people could paint how they felt about September 11th and the war that was coming. The place and scene for this wall was a perfect location because it was right in the center of the school at the student union. The students wanted people to be able to express how they felt about all that had been happening. This was running smoothly until one day someone spray painted "ZEPPPELIN ROCKS!!!" in huge strokes of yellow point. Whoever had done this had a reason of why he put that graffiti on the September 11th wall. The place and scene for the graffiti artist in his or her mind might have been to put "ZEPPPELIN ROCKS!!!" somewhere were a lot of people would see. I like how Tayina said,
"(Meta)Physical Graffiti: "Getting Up" as Affective Writing Model" shows our reaction to the Graffiti Art in regards to place and scene." I agree with Tayina because this whole passage shows how graffiti is a form of everyday writing that strongly relies on a place and scene to help the with the point the artist is trying to portray.

The place and scene also have a great deal to do with circulation of ideas. Depending on where something is located reflects who is going to see, read, watch or hear to message someone is trying to convey. When an idea is generated because of the place and scene something is located then the goal of whoever great the piece of everyday writing, such as graffiti has accomplished their goal. Jami said in her journal, "with graffiti, artists speak through each other through their graffiti and different tagging that they do in places; it is a conversation they are having throughout an area." I like that idea she had brought to light. Its intreseting to think how graffiti a piece of everyday writing that no matter where you are in the world you can find. The graffiti artist Banksy is one of my favorite artist because of the places and scenes he presents his art. He makes very conformational pieces and put them on places where everyone will see. This helps spark ideas in other people about the conflicts or problems going on in the world.
