Journal #9

Writing in the 21st century is like entering the wild west. You can say what you want when you want. I think that now because of the internet we can reach more people than we have ever before but it allows for more intuitive creation because of our access to information in a way that we have never had it. That being said I think the style of writing now is based less off fact and more off feeling. There is no more peer review and like Lessig hinted at there is less research going on. These new wild forms of expression that are exploited in today's world take no account for precedent and there is no precedent being set in today's time because there is no validation.

Web 2.0 of course allows for new ways to relay information and this makes anyone with a keyboard a writer. I think it's great that we are now more connected to others than ever before, but at the same time I am wary of the information I find on the internet because of its mass production. Even wikipedia has to constantly monitor its site for fraudulent information. I think the best thing for people to do is read books and use the internet to read info from reputable sites only. Just because everyone is now a writer doesn't mean that everyone is an intelligent writer.
