Journal #8

I believe that collaborating is the ability of two or more people to work together and share their ideas in order to create something with a greater outcome than what would have been accomplished alone.             From the article “Why Heather Can Write: Media Literacy and the Harry Potter Wars,” Heather Lawver created an online school “newspaper” dedicated to the fictional school of Hogwarts in order to promote literacy. From this fictional newspaper entitled “The Daily Prophet,” children from all over the world were able to submit their own stories in order to be published. This is an example of collaboration because a multitude of children were able to work together towards a common goal of producing “The Daily Prophet” newspaper. Each child created their own stories, while Lawver edited them all before being published. Like Claire had mentioned, since Heather was able to collaborate with others on her newspaper, she was able to have a more successful product than if she created the newspaper on her own.

I think that collaboration plays an extremely important role in everyday writing. Collaboration can be common in writing, whether it’s two different tattoo artists that use their differing creative abilities and talents in order to create a singular piece of artwork on a person’s body, or producing a children’s book with someone being the author of the book and another being the illustrator that draws pictures to go along with the story. Collaboration can definitely be used when creating a cookbook because it uses a variety of recipes that come from a variety of different people in order to produce a singular product. Collaborations can also be seen in clothing, music, and even on TV sometimes. I believe that collaborations in everyday writing can take place just about anywhere and everywhere.
