Journal #8

Collaboration is when a person combines with another person or groups of people to all come together and work on a project. Collaborating is a useful thing because people are able to bounce their ideas off of one another which resulting in their knowledge growing greater than if you were to work by yourself. The article “Why Heather Can Write: Media Literacy and the Harry Potter Wars,” is a perfect example of collaboration in everyday writing. She creates an online newspaper that was about Hogwarts school and children are all over are allowed to contribute to it. This is good because since there is so much input people who read it get many more perspectives and it makes it much more interesting.

Collaboration in everyday writing is extremely important I believe, if you look at many type of everyday writing collaboration is nearly always there in some form. For example like Logan said in his journal when artists come together and collaborate on their music. With two people on a song it can bring in more emotion and draw more fans to it. Another example are newspapers and magazines, they are composed of a bunch of different peoples pieces and all put together in one. If it were created only by one person it would lose its appeal because it wouldn’t be multidimensional. One could argue that everyday writing collaboration could also be seen in scrapbooks. The pictures that are in scrapbooks are rarely of just one person, they are pictures of the person who’s scrapbook it is and their loved ones. You could say this is an collaboration because without the other people it wouldn’t be as special and meaningful to someone.
