What does it mean to collaborate? And what role does collaboration play in
everyday writing?

To collaborate on a project is to seek the help others to better the final project. Collaboration can mean working as a team or even just being an influence on somebody else's work. The Hogwarts school newspaper is a perfect example of collaboration being used in everyday writing. The writers do not work directly together, may not even know each other as they are from different parts of the world, but have a role in what the audience sees as the final project. However, the Hogwarts online newsletter is only on example of many. In todays world most works of writing involves collaboration. There are writers who write the bulk of the work, there are publishers who must permit public display, and their are critics who analyze the writing so the author may improve when he does so again. The University of Florida State collaborates with their teachers on how and what to teach to their students.
Collaboration serves as a way to make everyday writing better. Exposing a project to the view of others allows for improvements that the original author might have missed. We collaborate in our class, when we write rough drafts and present them to you for feedback. This system of collaboration makes for a more finely refined final project. Collaboration is very common in todays writing because, using the resources available to you, it is an easy and efficient way to better your skill as a writer.
