I agree with Taylor right off the bat that rhetorical situations and genre go in hand in hand with each other, when you have one, you also have the other. Bitzers article was a bit confusing at first and I had to read it a few times to get a full grasp of what was being said. I think what was basically trying to be said was when a situation occurs there must be a reaction to change the situation. Dirk, in "Navigating Genre", connects rhetorical situations and genres by saying that genres are fundamental to the definition of everyday writing. As pointed out by a few, understanding genre and rhetorical situations it will help us improve our writing by focusing on the audience and their understanding of the situation at hand.
