Black Vernacular (EC)

I learned that many things about a persons culture can effect the way in which they choose to decorate or build their homes. I thought that his bit on "lack of material privilege need not be synonymous with poverty of spirit or imagination," was an extremely interesting statement; and very true. I'm sure that most people in poverty cannot fathom that even though they may not live in amazing homes with expensive decorations, that they can too interior decorate their homes into a creative and fascinating place to live in. I also enjoyed his historical stories about African Americans fixation on controlling lands, after the abolition of slavery. Race, gender, sexuality, and class all play a role in everyday writing because they all create an individuals culture; and this is the greatest effector of them all. These different cultures are present in a persons everyday writing, and it also sets them apart from the people in another culture. For example, the everyday writing of a high class, heterosexual, black woman would be very different from that of a lower-class, homosexual, white male.
